Happy Birthday Canada! Today is July 1st 2014 and it’s Canada’s 147th birthday and the biggest celebration in the city is held each year at the park.
Unfortunly it is also very cold, wet and windy today. The bad news is attendance is down; the good news is I was able to find a parking spot without any trouble.
A wide shot of all the tents.
The Sunglasses tent was not very busy today.
Mick E. Moose was there to pose for photos.
Here he is posing with Miss Poland from Folklorama.
Shaw had a polarbear mascot on hand. I thought their mascot was two robots.
Scoop the Free Press mascot was on hand to give high fives.
A number of people were sworn in for their Canadian Citizenship today on the main stage.
How cool is that to be sworn in on Canada Day?
Afterwards they had birthday cake sponsored by Canad Inns.
I hope the last ‘a’ was left off on purpose.
For everyone else at the park the Canad Inn’s chefs made over 100 cases of red velvet cupcakes. That’s over 2400 cupcakes they gave away today.
Lots of fun things for the kids to do.
And me, I like the food trucks the best. These are two of my favourites.
The biggest line up by far was at the poutine truck.
The history of poutine.
Deep fried cheesy goodness covered in gravy. What’s not to like?
Representatives of next years FIFA Woman’s World cup being held across Canada were on hand handing out posters.
The main stage.
The famous Winnipeg Police Pipe Band drew a large crowd.
Close up photo of the Pipe Band.
For the most part there was live entertainment all day.
For me the best entertainment of the day was watching these two.
A fun time was had by all that showed up despite the weather.
Later tonight the Park will be hosting an amazing fireworks display.
Until next time …
